ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਰਤ, ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਹਿੱਸਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ 100 ਮਿਲੀਅਨ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੋਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਇੰਡੋ-ਯੂਰਪੀਅਨ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਇੰਡੋ-ਆਰੀਅਨ ਸ਼ਾਖਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਲਿਖਣ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ "ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ" ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ 16ਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
